Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) recently issued a statement regarding the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute's (CHLI) "Lifetime Leadership Award" bestowed upon Chairman Emeritus, the Honorable Lincoln Díaz-Balart.
"There is no one more deserving of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute’s (CHLI) prestigious 'Lifetime Leadership Award' than the Honorable Lincoln Díaz-Balart," said Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart. He outlined his brother's career, starting as a lawyer providing free legal services to the indigent, serving in Florida’s state legislature and then for 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. There, he became the first Hispanic member appointed to the influential House Committee on Rules.
After leaving Congress, Lincoln returned to practicing law in South Florida and revitalized The White Rose Institute, an anti-Castro institute founded by their father in 1959. In Congress, Lincoln was instrumental in implementing comprehensive sanctions on the Castro regime that remain in effect today.
Lincoln also co-founded the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute in 2003 with Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart and then-Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. The organization aims to provide diversity of thought within the Hispanic community and inspire new generations of Hispanic leaders.
"Among Lincoln’s numerous accomplishments, CHLI is already proving to be a lasting legacy of unparalleled opportunities for the Hispanic community," said Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart. "For his decades of principled service and inspired leadership, I extend my deepest congratulations, admiration, and gratitude to my brother."
