WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart issued a statement regarding the verdict in President Trump's case.
"The case against former President Trump is an obvious and blatant travesty of justice and a political witch hunt. Over the past six weeks, the American people have seen firsthand how far President Biden, and the Democratic Party, will go to interfere in our election system. The Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, knew this case lacked merit but decided to charge President Trump even though his predecessor and the Federal Elections Commission found zero illegality with the President’s conduct. Shamefully, Bragg created a felony case out of thin air to make a name for himself and try to derail President Trump’s reelection.
Once this case started, it was clear to any impartial observer that justice in this case was not blind; the judge’s political bias, as a Biden donor, has clouded his judgment in favor of the political prosecution. This is no way to run a trial of a former President, Presidential candidate, or any American; political bias has no place in our court system.
The DA and the judge’s partisan zeal to use the courts to influence a Presidential election is a tactic commonly used by dictators against their political adversaries. In a dangerous time where the Biden Administration has exacerbated multiple national security threats and emboldened adversaries across the globe, this administration, along with partisan prosecutors, are further sowing chaos and division by corrupting two foundational institutions: our courts and our elections. This is exceedingly dangerous. Rather than protecting Americans and prosecuting violent criminals, New York prosecutors and the Biden Administration are focusing on bringing down a former president and GOP candidate for president. It is clear that this political sham of a trial has been centered on destroying a candidate rather than fighting actual crime.
This is a direct threat to our democracy. This case should never have seen the light of day."
