MIAMI, FL – Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) unveiled a $200,000 federal investment in a new park for the Village of Palmetto Bay to honor the community’s veterans. Congresswoman Salazar secured the funding as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, legislation she supported.
The funding will be used to construct The Charles & Fanny Dascal Veterans Park with a parking lot, walking path, and new landscaping. It will be utilized by the community in honor of veterans.
“I am honored to be here today in the great Village of Palmetto Bay to announce funding for an amazing new park,” said Rep. Salazar. “Our veterans deserve this recognition, and I am proud to secure these funds for Palmetto Bay, support our local community, and highlight the sacrifices of our veterans.”
The new park will be named after Charles and Fanny Dascal, Cuban American business owners who contributed significantly to making this project a reality.
Salazar is active in Congress advocating for Miami’s veterans. Some legislation she has introduced includes:
- The Panama Canal Zone Veterans Act (H.R. 2447) to ensure veterans exposed to Agent Orange while on duty in the Panama Canal Zone receive full benefits.
- The Veteran Service Recognition Act (H.R. 4569) to give noncitizen veterans who were deported a second chance at citizenship.
- The Supporting Every at-Risk Veteran In Critical Emergencies (SERVICE) Act (H.R. 8140) to help veterans in crisis by creating local veteran response teams for mental health crises or emergencies.
