Today marks the one-year anniversary of the attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 individuals. The co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Latino-Jewish Caucus—Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and Tony Gonzales (R-TX)—issued a statement to commemorate this day.
The statement reflects on the tragic events: “Today marks one year since the devastating terrorist attack by Hamas that massacred more than 1,200 innocent men, women, and children. On this solemn day, we embrace the families of the remaining 101 hostages and join the entire world in mourning and honoring the innocent lives lost on October 7th."
The representatives emphasized their commitment to securing the release of hostages still held by Hamas. They stated: "Together, we must continue to fight to bring home the hostages, including the four living Americans, Edan Alexander, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Omer Neutra, and Keith Siegel and ensure their return and reunification with their loved ones."
They also expressed dedication to recovering those who perished: "As well as bringing home the remains of three Americans who were killed by Hamas in Gaza."
In conclusion, they reiterated their resolve as leaders of their caucus: "As co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Latino-Jewish Caucus, we remain steadfast in our commitment and collaboration with our colleagues to work toward the return and reunification of the hostages with their families and to do whatever it takes to ensure the horrors of October 7, 2023 never again take place."
