The Problem Solvers Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives has endorsed the Dignity Act, a bipartisan immigration bill introduced by Representatives María Elvira Salazar and Veronica Escobar. This endorsement is significant for advancing major bipartisan legislation. The bill was presented for endorsement by Representatives Salazar and Hillary Scholten.
Rep. María Elvira Salazar expressed her support, stating, "The United States desperately needs an immigration solution, and the Dignity Act is the best and most viable bill to secure our border and solve our nation’s immigration problems." She emphasized that the endorsement by the Problem Solvers Caucus highlights its importance in Congress.
Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick also voiced his approval: "For far too long, our immigration system has been a glaring failure, and Americans are suffering as a result." He described the Dignity Act as a historic solution to end illegal immigration and secure borders while boosting economic prosperity.
The act aims to address issues related to border security, undocumented immigrants' status, high-skilled legal immigration reform, and asylum system overhaul. It includes provisions for securing borders with $25 billion funding and introduces new policies targeting illegal crossings.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer, another Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, remarked on its potential benefits: "I’m proud the Problem Solvers Caucus came together to endorse the bipartisan Dignity Act which will support American workers."
Since its introduction in 2023, the Dignity Act has received support from both political parties and various advocacy groups. It proposes innovative solutions like sealing borders through technology deployment and enhancing port-of-entry security measures.
Rep. Hillary Scholten highlighted her experience with immigration issues: "As an attorney who has worked on all aspects of the immigration problem... I have seen firsthand how our system is failing."
Overall, proponents argue that this legislation could lead to significant economic growth while addressing labor shortages in key industries such as healthcare.
