Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and the Miami City Commission announced a $3.5 million investment in affordable housing for senior citizens in Miami. The funds will support the construction of the Flagler Affordable Senior Housing Project, which was requested and approved under the Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
Rep. Salazar expressed her commitment to improving living conditions for seniors in Miami, stating, “Today, I want to present this check for $3.5 million for our seniors in Miami.” She added that the project aims to provide "safe, beautiful, and affordable living" spaces for the elderly who have contributed significantly to the community.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by Rep. Salazar to tackle housing affordability issues in South Florida. Her legislative efforts include H.R. 3533, the Home Advantage for American Families Act, which seeks to increase real estate sales tax for foreign buyers; H.R. 4305, the Shelter Act, offering tax credits for disaster mitigation improvements; and support for H.R. 7024, which raises low-income housing tax credits from 9% to 12.5%.
Additionally, Rep. Salazar has urged Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge to approve programs like PRICE to enhance federal investment in affordable housing.
