Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) has announced her decision to join the Congressional Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus. The caucus, led by Rep. Aaron Bean (R-FL), aims to collaborate with the incoming Department of Government Efficiency to create legislation aimed at reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in government operations.

"The American people deserve a federal government that treats their tax dollars with respect and takes a fresh look at government efficiency," stated Rep. Salazar. "I am proud to join the DOGE Caucus to help bring accountability to Washington. The time for wasteful governing is over."

On November 12, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency. This new department's mission is to dismantle excessive bureaucracy, reduce regulations, cut unnecessary spending, and restructure large federal agencies.

The U.S. government has been spending more than its revenue for years and currently borrows over $6 billion daily, with half of it going towards interest on debt alone. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, interest on national debt has tripled and now surpasses defense budget expenditures. Projections indicate borrowing will double within ten years as credit ratings decline and foreign creditors withdraw support.

The need for innovative proposals is emphasized to reduce wasteful spending and restore fiscal discipline in public finances. Such measures are seen as essential for creating market certainty, safeguarding future generations' financial stability, and ensuring sustainable long-term growth.
