Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida's 26th District since 2003, has voiced his concerns regarding the treatment of political figures and human rights activists in Venezuela and Cuba. His comments were shared through a series of tweets on November 22, 2024.

In one tweet, Díaz-Balart expressed his concern for Williams Dávila, a former deputy of Venezuela’s National Assembly. He stated: "I am deeply concerned for the health of Williams Dávila, former deputy of Venezuela’s National Assembly. The Maduro dictatorship ruthlessly suppresses all dissent, including through imprisonment, torture, and arbitrary killings. Mr. Dávila must receive adequate medical care." This tweet highlights the alleged oppressive actions by the Venezuelan government under President Nicolás Maduro.

In another tweet posted on the same day in Spanish, Díaz-Balart reiterated his concern about Dávila's health and criticized the Venezuelan government's actions against dissenters: "Estoy profundamente preocupado por la salud de Williams Dávila, exdiputado de la Asamblea Nacional de #Venezuela. La dictadura de Maduro reprime despiadadamente toda disidencia."

Díaz-Balart also addressed issues in Cuba concerning human rights leader José Daniel Ferrer. He tweeted: "I am profoundly concerned for human rights leader @jdanielferrer, whose family reported that he was cruelly beaten in Cuban state custody and transferred to a prison hospital." He described Ferrer as an effective advocate for democracy in Cuba and criticized the Cuban regime's treatment of him.
