Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart of Florida's 26th District recently participated in a video series hosted by Congressman Mike Simpson, discussing the State and Foreign Operations Funding Bill for Fiscal Year 2025. As Chairman of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee, Díaz-Balart emphasized the significance of agency accountability and how oversight has shaped the bill.
Díaz-Balart stated, "We need to be able to show the American people that the money that we're spending abroad is to help the national security interests of the United States." He stressed that U.S. allies should be supported, while adversaries should not receive funding.
Simpson acknowledged the reductions in Díaz-Balart's bill but praised its effectiveness in supporting allies. "You've taken some of the biggest cuts in your bill. Yet, you've come out with a good bill that... helps our allies," he said.
Díaz-Balart highlighted concerns regarding funding for certain U.N. institutions like UNWRA, citing allegations of connections with Hamas. He remarked on successful efforts to cease funding for such entities: "The good news... is that we did finally get that done."
Simpson serves as Chairman of the Interior and Environment Subcommittee.
