Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, representing Florida's 26th district and a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations, commented on the recent passage of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5009. This legislation, known as the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA), aims to enhance both national security and the quality of life for servicemembers.
Díaz-Balart stated, “The Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 prioritizes the safety and security of the American people by ensuring that our brave servicemen and women have the resources and support necessary to defend our country and confront the wide-ranging geopolitical challenges of our time, both at home and abroad."
He emphasized that those serving in the U.S. military deserve optimal conditions as they protect freedom and democracy. The legislation proposes improvements such as increased compensation for junior enlisted personnel, better housing conditions, access to medical care and childcare, support for military spouses, new schools for servicemembers' children, and enhanced career transition assistance.
Díaz-Balart also highlighted how this act addresses threats from nations like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. He criticized current administration policies by saying it tackles "the consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration's disastrous open-border policies." The act supports deploying the National Guard to manage illegal immigration and drug trafficking at the southern border while countering China's aggressive actions.
In conclusion, Díaz-Balart remarked on his commitment to ensuring servicemembers are prepared to face national security threats: "Our servicemembers are the pillar of our military and national security. I remain committed to ensuring that these brave men and women are fully prepared and equipped to safeguard our country against all threats to national security.”
