Last week, President Joe Biden signed into law H.R. 537/S. 91, known as the Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act. This legislation, introduced by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), passed with strong support in both the House of Representatives and the Senate before being enacted.

Rep. Salazar stated, "The Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act has been signed by the President of the United States!" She emphasized that recognizing these diplomats for their bravery during World War II sends a message to both the Jewish community and future generations about standing against oppression.

The new law awards the Congressional Gold Medal to 60 diplomats worldwide who saved Jews fleeing Nazi persecution by issuing passports and travel visas at great personal risk. The bill garnered support from nearly 300 legislators in the House and over 70 Senators.

This act marks Congresswoman Salazar’s eighth legislative success. Her previous work includes economic relief measures, sanctions on foreign regimes, support for small businesses, mental health funding reauthorization, environmental protection efforts, recovery of fraudulent loans, and conservation acts.
