As the 118th Congress concludes, Representative María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) continues to rally support for the Dignity Act (H.R. 3599), a significant bipartisan immigration bill. The Problem Solvers Caucus in the House of Representatives officially endorsed the bill in October 2024. This group, consisting of over 60 members, aims to promote practical solutions to pressing national issues.
Representative Salazar expressed her pride in receiving this endorsement, stating that it represents a critical step toward advancing legislation that prioritizes national security and economic growth. "The United States desperately needs an immigration solution, and the Dignity Act is the best and most viable bill to secure our border and solve our nation’s immigration problems," she said.
Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, highlighted the bill's potential impact on illegal immigration and economic prosperity. He stated, "The Dignity Act stands as a historic, bipartisan solution that decisively ends illegal immigration, secures our borders, and drives economic prosperity in the United States."
The Dignity Act proposes comprehensive measures such as securing borders, reforming asylum processes with new Humanitarian Centers at ports of entry, and creating programs for undocumented immigrants like the Dignity and Redemption initiatives. It also emphasizes investment in American workers and revises high-skilled legal immigration procedures.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer praised the caucus's endorsement of the act: "I'm proud the Problem Solvers Caucus came together to endorse the bipartisan Dignity Act which will support American workers." Meanwhile, Rep. Hillary Scholten shared her perspective as an attorney familiar with immigration challenges: "The bipartisan Dignity Act aims to repair our immigration system and restore humanity and justice to our process."
Since its introduction, the act has garnered bipartisan support from Congress members and endorsements from various advocacy groups nationwide. It addresses inefficiencies within current systems while aiming for substantial economic growth by resolving labor shortages in sectors like healthcare.
The proposed legislation outlines detailed provisions for border security enhancement without taxpayer expense through an Immigration Infrastructure Levy deducted from work-authorized individuals' paychecks under its programs.
