Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart of Florida has expressed support for the American Relief Act, 2025, following its recent passage. As a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations, he acknowledged the bill's role in providing necessary disaster relief and aid to American farmers.
"While imperfect, this bill provides critical disaster relief and support for American farmers," said Congressman Díaz-Balart. He praised Speaker Mike Johnson for his leadership during challenging negotiations to maintain government operations and prepare for President-elect Trump's administration beginning January 20th. Additionally, he commended Congressman Scott Franklin of Florida for securing essential support for the state's agricultural sector.
Díaz-Balart noted that although he would have preferred individual committees to pass their bills through the Chamber rather than attaching them to an important appropriations bill, the benefits outweigh any criticisms when considering his district, Florida, and national security as a whole. The legislation includes funding for disaster-stricken states like Florida and specific provisions encouraging a block grant program aimed at revitalizing Florida's citrus industry under the Trump administration.
He acknowledged that continuing resolutions are not ideal but stated that this measure allows President Trump to influence final funding decisions for fiscal year 2025. "As we prepare for President Trump's swearing-in, we are laying the groundwork to advance his America First agenda—lowering costs, unleashing American energy independence and dominance, and most importantly, securing our borders to protect Americans," he added.
