Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) has announced her continuation as chair of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee for the 119th Congress. In her previous term, she conducted 11 hearings addressing key issues affecting the United States and Latin America. She also sent numerous letters urging steadfast support for allies and a firm stance against adversaries.

Chairwoman Salazar emphasized Miami's role as "the Gateway to the Americas," noting its significant population with ties to Latin American countries. She stated, "I am ready to help President-elect Trump and Chairman Brian Mast deliver on the America First foreign policy agenda in the Western Hemisphere from my position on the Subcommittee." She also addressed regimes in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua with a strong message: "your time is up."

The subcommittee oversees U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. It focuses on regional migration, sanctions, economic partnerships, and international security. With the incoming Trump Administration, Chairwoman Salazar aims to address socialist regimes, tackle migration challenges, reduce Chinese, Russian, and Iranian influence, and strengthen American economic power in the region.
