Representative Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL-26), along with Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23), Tony Gonzales (R-TX-23), and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL-20), has introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at improving school safety measures. The legislation, known as the Single Application for School Safety Act (SASS), seeks to simplify the grant application process for schools by requiring only one submission to the Department of Justice.
The bill is designed to cut through bureaucratic hurdles, making it easier for teachers and administrators to access federal funding for security enhancements such as cameras, door locks, intercoms, and threat reporting systems. This streamlined approach is intended to ensure that schools and law enforcement agencies have access to essential resources.
"Ensuring school safety remains a top priority for our country. Applying for a school safety grant application should not be difficult," stated Rep. Díaz-Balart. He further explained that the SASS Act would "simplify the application process by now requiring only a single application submission to the Department of Justice, rather than multiple, cumbersome applications."
Rep. Díaz-Balart expressed his commitment to working with colleagues in Congress to advance the bill and ultimately present it to President Trump.
