Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, representing Florida’s 26th district and serving as Chairman of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, has expressed his support for President Trump’s recent decision to impose sanctions on the Cuban government. The sanctions target key figures within the regime, including Díaz-Canel.

Díaz-Balart issued a statement praising President Trump and Secretary Rubio for their actions against what he described as “villainous regime operatives.” He highlighted that these measures align with provisions he included in the Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations bill. According to Díaz-Balart, this move contrasts with the previous administration’s approach, which he criticized for not prioritizing national security.

The Congressman noted that it has been four years since the July 11 demonstrations in Cuba and stated that these sanctions are overdue. He thanked both President Trump and Secretary Rubio for utilizing available tools to hold accountable those oppressing the Cuban people.

The Fiscal Year 2024 State and Foreign Operations bill authored by Díaz-Balart was signed into law on March 23, 2024. It continues under the Fiscal Year 2025 Continuing Resolution.
