Mario Díaz-Balart, a longstanding U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, recently took to social media to express his views on various national security issues. Díaz-Balart has a background in state government, having served in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate prior to his time in Congress.
On April 28, 2025, Díaz-Balart highlighted a shift in U.S. policy towards the Cuban government. He emphasized the end of perceived leniency, stating, “Under President Trump’s leadership, human rights abusers in the ailing Castro dictatorship will no longer retire in comfort in the United States after spending decades oppressing and tormenting the Cuban people. The years of appeasement under the Biden administration are over.”
In a separate statement from the same day, Díaz-Balart addressed the issue of illegal immigration, noting a significant decrease in illegal entry attempts. He praised current measures for public safety, stating, “Illegal immigrant “gotaways” — the top threat to public safety — are down by 99%. Big wins for Americans, thanks to President Trump.”
Later that day, Díaz-Balart, serving as Chairman of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, reiterated his commitment to national interests. He acknowledged fellow politician Monica De La Cruz’s efforts and expressed support for President Trump and Secretary Rubio, stating, “As Chairman of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, my top priority is protecting American interests at home and abroad. I commend @RepMonicaDLC for raising awareness on this issue, and I applaud President @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio.”
Mario Díaz-Balart, a 61-year-old who resides in Miami, was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida.
