Nearly 300 creators from the music, TV, and film industries have expressed their support for the No AI FRAUD Act (H.R. 6943), introduced by Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Madeleine Dean (D-PA). The act aims to establish an individual's right to their voice and likeness while providing tools to combat AI deepfakes. In an open letter published in USA Today, the creators emphasized the importance of protecting fundamental human rights and preventing nonconsensual deepfakes.

Rep. Salazar expressed her enthusiasm for the support received, stating, "I am thrilled to have the support of nearly 300 artists, songwriters, actors, and other creators for my landmark No AI FRAUD Act. Let’s get this bill signed so we can protect ourselves from criminals profiting off our creativity."

The Human Artistry Campaign, on February 2, 2024, published an ad in USA Today featuring the signatures of the nearly 300 creators. The ad highlighted the significance of the No AI FRAUD Act in defending the fundamental human rights of individuals to their voice and likeness, protecting them from nonconsensual deepfakes.

Among the signatories are renowned names such as 21 Savage, Bette Midler, Cardi B & Offset, Chuck D, Common, Gloria Estefan, Jason Isbell, Kelsea Ballerini, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Daigle, Lamb of God, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Questlove, Reba McEntire, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson, Trisha Yearwood, Vince Gill, Bradley Cooper, Clark Gregg, Debra Messing, F. Murray Abraham, Fran Drescher, Laura Dern, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Kristen Bell, Kiefer Sutherland, Julianna Margulies, and Rosario Dawson.

The No AI FRAUD Act represents a groundbreaking effort by Rep. Salazar to establish an individual's right to their voice and likeness. This legislation provides a legal basis for individuals to take action against AI abuse, specifically deepfakes, to protect their identities.

State-level laws addressing these issues have been inconsistent and sometimes inadequate. The No AI FRAUD Act seeks to address this by establishing a federal solution with baseline protections for all Americans. The act reaffirms that everyone's likeness and voice are protected, granting individuals the right to control the use of their identifying characteristics. It empowers individuals to enforce this right against those who facilitate, create, and spread AI frauds without their permission. Furthermore, the act strikes a balance between protecting rights and ensuring First Amendment freedoms to safeguard speech and innovation.

The full text of the bill can be accessed HERE, while a one-page summary is available HERE.

With the support of hundreds of artists, actors, and creators, the No AI FRAUD Act aims to protect individuals' fundamental human rights to their voice and likeness, safeguarding them from the misuse of AI technology.
