A Hialeah man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and interference with custody of a minor after allegedly luring a six-year-old boy away from his home on Saturday, December 28.
According to Miami-Dade police, Jose Reynaldo Martinez Reyes, 56, approached the child while he was playing soccer outside his residence on NW 79th Street.
After befriending the boy, Martinez Reyes allegedly lured him away from the home by promising to buy him a toy, and the two left on foot.
When the boy’s older brother noticed, he and an adult family friend began searching. Shortly after, they found the boy and Martinez Reyes on foot more than a mile away.
When confronted, Martinez Reyes allegedly claimed the boy was his son.
According to investigators, a brief struggle ensued before the older brother managed to free the boy. The pair then detained Martinez Reyes until police arrived.
A video of the alleged abduction was later posted to social media. One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “Biden, Harris, Mayorkas, and the Democrats have been inviting this for almost four years. Our whole government is broken.”
Police say Martinez Reyes carried no identification and refused to make a statement about the incident after being questioned. Detectives also confirmed the suspect has no connection to the boy or his family.
Martinez Reyes is currently in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration hold on him while authorities investigate his immigration status.
