On February 4, 2025, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart appeared on This Week in South Florida to discuss several topics including tariffs, immigration, Venezuela, and Guantanamo Bay.

In discussing tariffs, Díaz-Balart highlighted the impact of fentanyl production on American deaths. "100,000 Americans die every single year. 80,000 of those deaths are because of fentanyl. We know that the fentanyl is produced in China," he stated. He praised President Trump's approach to addressing this issue with international partners: "I commend President Trump for saying enough is enough."

The congressman also addressed immigration and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans. He supported Trump's actions on immigration and expressed his backing for TPS: "Do I continue to support TPS for Venezuelans? Yes, I do." He emphasized a desire for case-by-case reviews for asylum seekers.

Díaz-Balart spoke about the meeting between President Trump's envoy and Nicolás Maduro regarding American hostages held by the Maduro regime. He conveyed his understanding that there were no U.S. concessions involved in their release: "I'm confident that there have been no [U.S.] concessions."

Regarding Guantanamo Bay, Díaz-Balart reiterated President Trump's stance on its purpose: "The president [Trump] has said multiple times that's [Guantanmo Bay] for the worst of the worst."
