The award was announced this week at the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference and Expo
The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) has selected the City of Miami Beach to receive the organization’s prestigious Green Fleet Award, which recognizes groundbreaking and ingenious green initiatives.
The honor was announced on Aug. 30 at NAFA’s Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference and Expo in Durham, North Carolina.
“This award reflects the city’s commitment to being a leader in environmental resilience,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said. “I am very proud of the work that our Facilities and Fleet Management Department does every day to make Miami Beach a greener city.”
The Miami Beach Facilities and Fleet Management Department purchases and maintains the city’s nearly 1,400 vehicles and other equipment.
Miami Beach is on target to achieve an ambitious goal of converting half of the entire municipal fleet to a combination of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles by 2025. The Miami Beach City Commission last year adopted a resolution declaring climate change to be caused by human activity and pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Earlier this year, Miami Beach was named to the NAFA 100 Best Fleets, which recognizes peak-performing fleet operations among the 38,000 public fleets in North America. NAFA members control more than 4.6 million vehicles that are driven an estimated 50 billion miles each year and they manage more than $100 billion in assets. #
