Rep. Frederica Wilson, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, recently shared a series of tweets covering topics from social justice to local education and legislative milestones.
On December 13, 2024, Rep. Wilson highlighted the issue of mass incarceration affecting Black men disproportionately for non-violent offenses. She urged for clemency to be extended to more deserving individuals in order to solidify a legacy of compassion and justice. "This especially includes Black men who have disproportionately suffered from mass incarceration for non-violent offenses... By extending clemency to more deserving individuals, he can further solidify his legacy of compassion and justice in his final days in office."
Later that day, she congratulated her mentee Phelton Moss on being elected to the Prince George's County School Board. She expressed confidence that Dr. Moss would implement policies that positively impact lives. "Congratulations to my Mentee Role Model @PheltonMoss who was elected to the Prince George's County School Board. Dr Moss will set policies that will change lives."
In another tweet on December 13, Rep. Wilson commemorated the second anniversary of the Respect for Marriage Act becoming law, which supports same-sex and interracial couples' rights. She affirmed House Democrats' solidarity with the LGBTQI+ community daily. "Today, we celebrate two years since the Respect for Marriage Act became law—enshrining love, dignity, and respect for same-sex and interracial couples... House Democrats stand with the LGBTQI+ community today and every day."
