Enjoy Miami on Columbus Day

Celebrate the diverse cultures and history of the Americas on Columbus Day Monday, Oct. 10. Take a look at some activities you can enjoy during the holiday and tips to ensure a safe weekend.

County Services

  • Miami-Dade County offices are closed Monday, Oct. 10.
  • Transportation services will run a regular schedule.
  • Solid Waste Management will run regular garbage and recycling pickup services.
  • Libraries are closed Monday, Oct. 10.
  • The Pet Adoption and Protection Center will be closed Oct. 10.
Safety

  • Planning on taking the boat out? Sign up for Miami-Dade Marina Alerts for text messages about boat ramp closures and re-openings.
  • Check out these boating safety tips before you head out on the water.
  • To be safe for the holidays, remember the Three A's of Crime Prevention: Be Aware of Your Surroundings, Be Alert to Suspicious People and Vehicles, Avoid Dangerous Situations.
Activities

  • Columbus Day Regatta: The Columbus Day regatta is back this year. Join sailors on a one-day race on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9.
  • Bird Walk: The Deering Estate is part of the Biscayne Bay IBA (Important Bird Area) recognized as a globally important habitat for the conservation of bird populations. Search for some of the Deering Estate’s estimated 170 resident and migratory bird species while enjoying the outdoor spaces Saturday, Oct. 8.
