Miami Beach will host the city’s first-ever Human Rights Expo on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The event will bring together 10 volunteer committees dealing with everything from human rights to Black affairs, affordable housing and other topics of equality.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our many volunteer committees that work to make life better for our residents on a daily basis,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said. “This is also a great opportunity for our residents to find areas they want to get involved in so they can help make a difference.”
Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on Dec. 10 to commemorate the day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“This Miami Beach event coincides with the worldwide celebrations of international Human Rights Day all weekend long,” added Alan Fishman, who chairs the city’s Human Rights Committee. “We can’t wait to meet our community members and identify areas where we can all collaborate on a better future.”
The following committees will be participating: Human Rights, Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Black Affairs, Disability Access, Health Care Task Force Subcommittee, Hispanic Affairs, Homeless, LGBTQIA+, Quality Education, and Commission for Women.
