Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) supported an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2023 which requires the FAA to seek feedback from communities affected by aircraft noise as part of the Part 150 Noise Standard Update, a regulation of the FAA which ensures the voice and concerns of communities are heard. The amendment passed yesterday as part of the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization bill to which the Congresswoman voted yes on today.

“Communities in South Florida, including those near Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, have endured noise pollution for years,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Over the years, I have listened to the pleas of residents who live near the flight paths. Sadly, the Federal Aviation Administration often has shut their voices down and refused to listen to their concerns about current and forthcoming airline routes. I’m proud to support Congresswoman Meng’s amendment to ensure our community’s noise pollution concerns are addressed. Together, we will continue to work towards a solution that respects the well-being and quality of life for all those affected.”

Last month, Congresswoman Wilson submitted similar amendments to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The amendments would have reopened the FAA comment period for additional community input.

As a representative in South Florida, Congresswoman Wilson has long advocated on behalf of communities affected by aircraft noise pollution and expressed concerns about the negative impacts of excessive noise pollution. Across the nation, noise pollution affects residents’ ability to gather and enjoy themselves free of interference from the constant noise of planes.
