Rep. María Elvira Salazar from Florida proudly announced that her bipartisan “Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act” has gained the support of 261 cosponsors since its introduction in January 2023. The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Ritchie Torres from New York, has reached a significant milestone by becoming the seventh most cosponsored legislation in the 118th Congress, outshining over 9,000 other bills in the House of Representatives.

Expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support, Rep. Salazar stated, “I am proud to have the support of more than 250 of my colleagues on this important legislation. At a time when global antisemitism is on the rise, it is essential to highlight heroes that defended Jewish lives against all odds.”

The “Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act” aims to honor the 60 diplomats from various countries who risked their lives to save Jews fleeing Nazi persecution during World War II. These courageous diplomats issued passports and travel visas to Jewish families, ultimately saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

Rep. Salazar, known for her efforts in combating antisemitism, has been vocal in criticizing leaders who promote antisemitism globally and has introduced legislation to address this issue within the United States.

The bill has garnered extensive bipartisan support with a total of 261 cosponsors including a diverse group of representatives such as Ritchie Torres, Claudia Tenney, Stephanie Bice, Chris Pappas, and many others.

The text of the bill and the list of current cosponsors can be found on the Congress website.

This bipartisan initiative continues to gain momentum in Congress as more representatives join the cause to recognize and honor the bravery of the forgotten heroes of the Holocaust.
