U.S. Representatives María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) along with U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) have introduced the Americas Act, a groundbreaking legislation aimed at strengthening trade partnerships in the Western Hemisphere and countering China's increasing influence on the global stage.

Rep. Salazar emphasized the importance of the Americas Act in unleashing economic potential and stability in the hemisphere, stating, "It’s past time we unleash the full economic potential of the United States and Latin America. The Americas Act is THE solution to grow our economy and bring stability to the hemisphere."

Miami, known as the Gateway to the Americas, stands to benefit significantly from this legislation, with Rep. Salazar highlighting the impact on the city's economy and trade relationships with Latin American allies. She emphasized the necessity of keeping the hemisphere free from the influence of the Chinese Communist Party.

Senator Cassidy echoed the sentiment, stressing the need to rebalance trade dynamics and diminish China's influence by focusing on the Western Hemisphere. He stated, "Our Americas Act will make economies across the hemisphere more resilient, governments more stable, and our hemisphere more prosperous."

Senator Bennet underscored the bill's significance in revitalizing partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting economic prosperity, and upholding democratic values. He stated, "This bill changes that. It creates an opportunity for the United States to renew our partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthen the rule of law, deepen economic prosperity, and embrace our values in a shared struggle for democracy."

Rep. Espaillat emphasized the job creation potential of the Americas Act, highlighting its impact on workers in the U.S. and partner countries in the Western Hemisphere. He described the bill as transformative, benefiting the region significantly.

Chairman Gallagher emphasized the importance of diversifying supply chains to mitigate risks associated with over-reliance on Chinese manufacturing. He stressed the need for strategic planning to safeguard American consumers in potential confrontations with China.

The Americas Act is poised to reshape America's role in the Western Hemisphere, emphasizing economic cooperation, job creation, and the promotion of democratic values. This legislation represents a significant step towards bolstering trade relationships, enhancing economic resilience, and countering China's influence in the region.
