In an op-ed published by the Miami Herald, U.S. Representative Mario Díaz-Balart emphasized the importance of robust foreign policy measures, stating, "Americans deserve better than a weak and confused foreign policy."

Díaz-Balart highlighted the significance of the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, in reestablishing American leadership and addressing critical national security concerns. He noted, "This important legislation advances freedom, manifests strong solidarity with our allies, and stands firm against the malign forces that undermine U.S. national security, all while cutting overall spending by 6% from last year’s level."

Referencing recent global events, Díaz-Balart underscored the need for a decisive foreign policy approach in the face of challenges such as the Biden administration's withdrawal from Afghanistan, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and threats from the Chinese Communist Party. He asserted, "Americans deserve better than a weak and confused foreign policy."

The op-ed outlined specific provisions of the legislation, including unwavering support for Israel, measures to counter Iran's destabilizing actions, and efforts to address human rights abuses and anti-American entities within the United Nations. Díaz-Balart also emphasized the bill's stance against Communist China's influence and its support for Taiwan.

As a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations and chairman of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee, Díaz-Balart expressed pride in the legislation's support for freedom and democracy globally. He concluded by stressing the importance of respecting human rights and promoting democracy for a more secure world.
