Mario Díaz-Balart, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 26th District since 2003, shared a series of tweets on April 7, 2025, expressing personal condolences and criticism of governmental actions. Díaz-Balart, who has served in public office since 1988, also served in Florida's legislature before joining Congress. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1961, he holds a degree from the University of South Florida and currently resides in Miami.
In his first tweet, Díaz-Balart expressed his condolences to a friend, "@RemediosDiaz," sharing that "Our hearts are with you, my dear friend @RemediosDiaz. Tia and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Fausto was a true joy to be around, with a witty sense of humor, and an amazing friend to all. May Fausto rest in peace."
A follow-up post in Spanish was also directed at Remedios Diaz on the same platform. The tweet reads, "Nuestros corazones están contigo, querida amiga @RemediosDiaz.
Later in the day, Díaz-Balart shared a more politically charged statement.
Díaz-Balart has long been involved in U.S. politics. Growing up in Florida, he attended the University of South Florida, equipping him for a career in the legislative field both at the state and national level.
