Mario Díaz-Balart, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 26th District, expressed severe criticism towards statements by Petro concerning a transnational criminal organization and emphasized transparency in U.S. aid initiatives through his social media presence.

On April 7, 2025, Díaz-Balart criticized Petro’s actions, stating, "Once again, Petro reveals his sympathy for terrorists and complete disregard for the rule of law. Later the same day, Díaz-Balart shared his congressional duties, specifying his role in an oversight hearing for the National Security and Department of State Subcommittee. Mario Díaz-Balart, 61, a Floridian by birth and education, has amassed extensive political experience since 1988, also serving in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate before his long tenure in Congress. Currently residing in Miami, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida.
