A celebration of black history

31

Miami Dade County recently issued the following announcement.

Fifty-eight years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African Americans have made great strides and contributions to American society.

As the nation observes Black History Month, take part in events planned throughout February that celebrate the past and present contributions of African Americans. There’s something for everyone whether your preference is art, music, lively discussions or technology. Recognizing that the Black Family has its origins on the African continent while extending across the globe, this year’s theme is: “Black Health and Wellness” acknowledging the legacy of Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine throughout the African Diaspora.

Take part in discussions, tours, live music and dance performances, including the Black History Month kickoff at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 in the Stephen P. Clark Center lobby. The photo unveiling exhibit will feature Black Miami medical professionals.
