Mario Díaz-Balart reflects on school safety seven years after Parkland shooting

Mario Díaz-Balart, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 26th District, shared a series of tweets on February 14, 2025, marking the anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. His comments focused on school safety and government responses to such tragedies.

In his first tweet, Díaz-Balart commemorated the seventh anniversary of the tragic event at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that resulted in the loss of 17 lives. He emphasized the importance of child safety for families, stating: "Today marks seven years since the horrific Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which claimed the lives of 17 students and staff. The safety of our children is of the utmost importance for every family. All parents should feel confident that when they drop their child…"

In a subsequent tweet posted moments later, he highlighted actions taken by former President Trump following this tragedy. He noted: "Following this tragedy, @POTUS swiftly responded by establishing a Federal Commission on School Safety comprised of key agency heads who met with experts across various sectors to produce real, common-sense solutions. Pres. Trump led the charge in the creation of a one-stop shop…"

Continuing his discussion on national safety measures, Díaz-Balart stated that additional resources have been provided to expand research and training efforts nationwide. He also mentioned broadening protections to include workplaces and houses of worship: "It also provides additional resources to expand research, information-sharing, and training on a national scale and would broaden the program to include protection for workplaces and houses of worship."
