Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart, Nicole Malliotakis, María Elvira Salazar, Carlos Giménez, and Cuban human rights activist Rosa María Paya will be holding a press conference to condemn the Congressional Progressive Caucus' recent trip to Cuba. The event will also serve to highlight the human rights atrocities committed by Cuba's communist regime and call on the State Department to keep Cuba on the State-Sponsor of Terrorism List.

The press conference, scheduled for Friday, March 8th at 9:45 AM ET at the U.S. Capitol House Triangle, aims to address the concerning actions of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, Chairman of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee, expressed the group's stance by stating, "It is imperative that we continue to shine a light on the brutal realities faced by the Cuban people under the oppressive communist regime."

Joining him in this endeavor, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, emphasized the importance of standing up against human rights violations. She asserted, "We cannot turn a blind eye to the ongoing atrocities in Cuba, and it is crucial that we hold the perpetrators accountable."

Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration & International Economic Policy, Rep. María Elvira Salazar, added her voice to the condemnation, stating, "The actions of the Congressional Progressive Caucus undermine efforts to promote democracy and human rights in Cuba."

Furthermore, Rep. Carlos Giménez, a Member of the Homeland Security Committee, highlighted the need for the State Department to adhere to the law by keeping Cuba on the State-Sponsor of Terrorism List. He expressed, "It is essential that we do not overlook the dangers posed by Cuba's support for terrorism and its violations of international norms."

Cuban human rights activist and opposition leader, Rosa María Paya, will also be present at the press conference to provide firsthand accounts of the struggles faced by the Cuban people. Her presence serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for justice and freedom in Cuba.

The event invites interested individuals to attend by RSVPing to Andrea.Morales@mail.house.gov, underscoring the significance of collective action in addressing human rights abuses and promoting democracy in Cuba.
