Legislator Mario Díaz-Balart, the chair of the Subcommittee on the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, expressed satisfaction after the approval of legislation encompassing six remaining appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024. The bills cover Defense, Financial Services, Homeland Security, Labor, Health and Human Services, Legislative Branch, and the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.

Díaz-Balart highlighted the importance of the legislation, stating, "This critical legislation fully funds our national security and defense while protecting American taxpayers' dollars by significantly reducing unnecessary spending." He also criticized the Biden Administration's policies, describing them as disastrous for global security.

The legislator emphasized that the SFOPS legislation allocates $58.346 billion for non-defense related resources, representing reductions compared to previous fiscal years and the president's budget request. Díaz-Balart underscored the legislation's focus on prioritizing taxpayer money for agencies and programs that safeguard national security, uphold values, support allies, and promote democracy and freedom abroad.

The legislation includes various provisions aimed at specific countries in the Western Hemisphere, such as Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, promoting democracy, religious freedom, and combating narcotics trafficking in the region. Additionally, support for allies like Israel is reinforced through funding agreements and conditions outlined in the bill.

Furthermore, the legislation strengthens national security measures by prohibiting funding to adversarial nations like China and the Taliban, as well as addressing issues related to Iran, fentanyl crisis, and climate-related accounts.

Díaz-Balart's legislative priorities for Fiscal Year 2024 are reflected in the approved bills, aligning with efforts to bolster national security, support allies, and advance American values and interests.
