Rep. Frederica Wilson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 24th district, has voiced her concerns on social media regarding the current administration's decision to deport Haitian nationals. Wilson, who has served in Congress since 2011 and previously held positions in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, shared her views through a series of tweets on February 20, 2025.
In her first tweet, Rep. Wilson criticized the decision to send Haitians back to their home country amidst ongoing turmoil. She stated, "Sending Haitians back to Haiti right now is a kiss of death. It’s not just wrong—it’s inhumane." She further described the decision as "outrageous" and part of what she perceives as an administration's "reign of terror."
Continuing her stance against the deportation order, Wilson expressed her readiness to oppose it actively. In another tweet posted at the same time, she declared, "I am prepared to take immediate action to try to fight this order because we cannot be in the business of deporting over 500,000 Haitian people." She highlighted that many affected individuals are her constituents and emphasized the persistent gang violence and instability in Haiti.
In a subsequent message, Rep. Wilson called for support rather than abandonment of the Haitian people during their crisis. She tweeted,"The turmoil in Haiti is real, and instead of turning our backs, we should be supporting the Haitian people." She underscored America's historical role as a refuge for those fleeing danger and urged continued responsibility towards this commitment.
