WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), chair of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, delivered a speech on the House Floor urging for American action and leadership in Cuba and Haiti.

"As we must extinguish the flames of instability and communism that are burning in our neighborhood," stated Representative Salazar. "If we do not, they will surely spread to other parts of the region. We cannot ignore Cuba or Haiti."

Following protests in eastern Cuban cities like Santiago and Bayamo on March 17, 2024, the communist regime once again blamed the United States for promoting them for "destabilizing purposes" and the Embargo for causing the economic crisis. However, facts repeatedly show that the Cuban dictatorship is solely responsible for the country's deteriorating situation. Congresswoman Salazar reiterated the call for the Biden Administration to show strong support for the Cuban people's demands for "FREEDOM," not the regime in Havana, which is in the business of power.

In Haiti, dangerous gangs have taken control of the country, plunging it into chaos. The crisis is pushing Haiti into the greatest social, political, and security crisis the Haitians have ever experienced. Without U.S. action, Haiti will continue to fall under gang violence, with its repercussions having a domino effect in the region, particularly in the state of Florida.
